Extension Talks With Jose Ramirez Breaking Down
3 years agoThe Cleveland Guardians contract-extension talks with All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez appear to have broken down. The Guardians have set an April 7 deadline for potential contract extensions, so they are running out of time. The switch-hitting Ramirez is the highest-paid player on the team and will make $12 million in 2022 with a team option for 2023 worth $14 million. But Ramirez is underpaid after finishing in the top three of American League MVP voting three times since 2017. The 29-year-old hit .266/.355/.538 with 36 home runs, 103 RBI, 111 runs scored and 27 stolen bases in 152 games last year and remains an elite five-category fantasy contributor, even if he doesn't secure a contract extension before Opening Day.
