7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez picked up his first save since April 14 in a 6-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. With his team nursing a one-run lead, the southpaw entered the game with a runner on first base with one out in the eighth inning. He allowed a hit and a walk but got through the final two frames unscathed while striking out two. The 26-year-old now has six saves on the season to go with a 3.46 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 13 innings. Control has been a problem at times (10.5 percent walk rate) and his ground-ball rate is way down (27.8 percent), but he remains a solid option at closer.--Matt Wilkes
