Felix Hernandez Struggles in Spring Debut
4 years agoBaltimore Orioles veteran starter Felix Hernandez had an uninspiring start to his spring. The former Mariners legend allowed two runs in two innings and issued two free passes. Most concerning, his fastball sat in the mid-80s. Still just 34-years-old, Hernandez last pitched in the major leagues in 2019 when he posted a 6.40 ERA and allowed 85 hits in just 71.2 innings. His fastball at that time was averaging 89.6 mph. In camp on a non-roster invitation, the Orioles will hope that Hernandez can rediscover his fastball over the next few weeks to add some veteran stability to a young starting rotation.
