Felix Pena Spins Seven Scoreless After Opener
6 years agoLos Angeles Angels pitcher Felix Pena allowed just three hits and no walks with seven strikeouts over seven innings in Thursday's victory against the Detroit Tigers, improving to 2-1. He came on after opener Luke Bard worked a scoreless first inning. It was the third consecutive start Pena came on after an opener, and apparently this combination worked well. Pena threw 57 of his 86 pitches for strikes, including first-pitch strikes to 14 of the 24 batters he faced. It was easily his most impressive showing of the season. He remains a must-start in all AL-only fantasy leagues, especially after this outing, as he now has a solid 3.21 ERA and 0.92 WHIP. His next scheduled appearance is tentatively set for Tuesday in Minnesota, either as a starter or after the opener.
