5 years agoThe Oakland Athletics released veteran relief pitcher Fernando Rodney on Tuesday just two days after designating him for assignment. Manager Bob Melvin admitted that the team hadn't been using him as frequently as the veteran is accustomed, but the way Rodney has pitched (9.42 ERA, .345 opponent batting average) in 17 relief appearances, there wasn't much reason to use him. Rodney's velocity is still topping out in the low-90's, and it's likely he'll latch on with another organization. For now, his fantasy appeal is rather negligible.--Daniel Dobish
