Fernando Tatis Jr. Could Get Reps In Right Field
3 years agoThe San Diego Padres are considering trialing shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (shoulder) in right field. Out since July 30 after partially dislocating his left shoulder for the fourth time, the Friars believe a positional move could preserve their star 22-year-old. Expected to return from the IL imminently, Tatis has looked natural practicing in the outfield but has also taken reps at short. The MVP candidate is slashing .292/.373/.651 with 31 homers, 23 steals and 148 runs-plus-RBI in 362 plate appearances and may return to game action this weekend against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Already peaking as a top fantasy performer, any additional versatility would only raise his ceiling further. The loser in this scenario is outfielder Wil Myers, who'd be reduced to a part-time role.
