Fernando Tatis Jr. Launches Homer, Extends Hot Start
4 years agoSan Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. smacked his first home run of 2020 in Tuesday’s victory against the San Francisco Giants. The 21-year-old went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts but made his knock count, sending a pitch by Giant starter Jeff Samardzija over the opposite-field wall in right for a three-run dinger. Tatis is off to a sizzling start, collecting hits in each game and slashing .316/.409/.684 with four extra-base hits, 10 runs-plus-RBI and a steal in 22 plate appearances. With a .500 BABIP, it’s probable his pace moderates but the decline should be muted as a 36 percent strikeout rate also normalizes. He’ll look for his fourth homer at Oracle Park in just six contests on Wednesday versus Giants starter Johnny Cueto.
