4 years agoFive Philadelphia Phillies players and three staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 at the team's spring training site in Clearwater, Florida. The names of the infected have not been released, but none have been hospitalized and each case appears to be under control. In addition to the eight positive cases, several other tests are awaiting results, so the outbreak could be worse. This is the first known outbreak in MLB, and the commissioner's office is aware of the situation as the league and the players union inch closer to a return-to-play agreement. Both sides have stated all along that health and safety will be the top priority when trying to hold a season in 2020, so this is a harsh reminder that COVID-19 will be the ultimate factor in deciding if a season can be played despite positive news in labor negotiations this week.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
