Franchy Cordero Could Miss Opening Day
4 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Franchy Cordero has been working his way back from a bout with COVID-19, shifting his timeline for his regular-season availability. Manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that there was "a chance" that Cordero would be cleared in time for April 1 against Baltimore, although the team's glut of reserve outfielders could help make the decision for him. In 2018, when Cordero put a career-high 85 balls into play, he averaged a 94.1 mph exit velocity and posted a 51.9 percent hard-hit rate, both of which would turn him into a top-tier fantasy commodity over the course of a full season. Not yet having had a full-time gig in the big leagues, there will be some risk attached to selecting Cordero during season-long formats. Check back for final word on his Opening Day status when the Red Sox make it available.
