Franchy Cordero's Stock Up After Latest Padres Trade
5 years agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Franchy Cordero is likely the biggest winner with the recent departure of Manuel Margot. With Margot traded to the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend, Cordero has a shot to be the Opening Day starting center fielder. Expected to be a material piece to the Friars since 2018, the 25-year-old has been limited to just 49 major league games the past two seasons with elbow and quad injuries. Finally healthy, Cordero has an opportunity to capitalize on his raw power-speed combination if he can improve his contact issues (38.8 career strikeout rate). With outfielder Tommy Pham expected to be a staple in left field, Cordero will compete with Trent Grisham and Wil Myers for majority share in a possible platoon situation. His stock pointing up again, Cordero is worth a late-round flier heading into spring training and early fantasy drafts.
