Francisco Cervelli Could Re-Emerge on Fantasy Rader After Hot Spring
7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli had arguably the best spring training of any hitter on his club, slashing .405/.488/.838 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 15 games. The 32-year-old appears to be healthy for the first time in two years, and that could again make him an option for fantasy owners. Cervelli had a career year in 2015 (.295/.370/.401, 7 home runs, 43 RBI, 117 wRC+) that made him a valuable waiver wire add. But the Pittsburgh backstop struggled to stay off the disabled list and hit only .257/.362/.343 the last two seasons, dropping him well off the fantasy radar in any league without on-base percentage as a category. While his power outburst may not continue throughout the regular season, he's worth keeping an eye on to see if the hot hitting continues, especially at a position with little depth. He'll bat seventh on Opening Day against the Detroit Tigers.
