Francisco Lindor Extension Talks To Begin
4 years agoExtension talks are expected to begin between New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor and the team, with the expectation that Lindor will command at least a 10-year deal in excess of $300 million. Robert Murray reports that while both sides have a clear mutual interest in completing a deal, each has acknowledged that Lindor could leave New York once his contract expires this season. Opening Day has been set as a soft deadline to get a deal done. Although Lindor had a down year in 2020 while slashing .258/.335/.415 with just eight home runs and 27 RBI, expectations are high for him in 2021 hitting in the potent Mets' lineup. While it is possible Lindor could leave the Mets after just this one year, it is likely both sides will reach an agreement to keep the All-Star shortstop playing in Queens for years to come.
