4 years agoTampa Bay Rays catcher Francisco Mejia (side) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Mejia had been scratched from Friday's lineup with left intercostal discomfort, and according to manager Kevin Cash, Mejia's rib cage discomfort "irritated him to breathe" when he woke up this morning. The team opted to go the cautious route and placed him on the injured list so he could fully recover. Through 19 games this season, Mejia is slashing .300/.348/.450 with one home run, six RBI and three runs scored. While Mejia is out, Mike Zunino will take the bulk of the playing time behind the plate, while Kevan Smith will serve as the backup option. For managers in deep mixed leagues or AL-only formats, Zunino is a potential option to target for his home run potential, as he already has six through 20 games.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
