Frank Schwindel Returns A Day After Being Optioned
3 years agoThe Chicago Cubs recalled first baseman Frank Schwindel from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, just one day after optioning him to the minors, according to a team source. Starting pitcher Justin Steele (thumb), who left his start on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a thumb injury, could go on the injured list to make room for Schwindel on the active roster. Schwindel, 29, is hitting just .209 with two home runs and a .558 OPS in 25 games to begin the season, but he was the National League Rookie of the Month in the final two months of last season. In his last six games at the plate, he went 3-for-23 with eight strikeouts, so there's a good chance that he'll be on the Cubs bench to begin the series against the San Diego Padres this week.
