Frank Schwindel Starts On Bench Tuesday
2 years agoChicago Cubs first baseman Frank Schwindel is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In seven games in the month of July, Schwindel is hitting just .200 (5-for-25) with no homers and two RBI. Overall, the 30-year-old right-handed hitter is batting .233/.279/.372 with eight home runs, 35 RBI and 23 runs scored in 272 plate appearances and 69 games for the Cubbies. Alfonso Rivas is starting at first base and hitting eighth, while All-Star catcher Willson Contreras will serve as the designated hitter and bat second against Pirates right-hander Bryse Wilson. Contreras is one of the better hitting catchers in baseball, while Rivas has hit just .225 on the year with three home runs, 23 RBI and three stolen bases in 169 at-bats.
