Frankie Montas Feels Good After Simulated Game
4 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Frankie Montas (illness) said he feels good after throwing two innings in a simulated game. Montas was late to camp after battling COVID-19. As long as there are no setbacks, Montas should appear in Spring Training games soon and is on track to be in the rotation for Opening Day, according to manager Bob Melvin. The right-hander was a popular breakout pick last season, but flopped to a 5.60 ERA with a 1.60 WHIP in 53 innings. Despite the bad season, Montas is still being drafted near pick 155 overall on average. He does boast strong swing-and-miss ability as evidenced by an 11 percent career swinging-strike rate, but he also carries a fair amount of risk as he's never thrown 100 innings in any MLB season.
