Franklin Barreto Will Fill Utility Role To Close 2020
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels second baseman/shortstop Franklin Barreto was activated ahead of Wednesday’s contest against the Padres, with manager Joe Maddon indicating that he planned to use the 24-year-old “literally everywhere” over the team’s final 24 games. Barreto was acquired in the deal for Tommy La Stella, once having been thought of as the A’s long-term option at the keystone. With Andrelton Simmons and David Fletcher likely serving as the club’s up-the-middle tandem over the final month, Barreto will have to branch out if he’s to see consistent at-bats. Until the Angels begin to play him everyday, he can remain on the waiver wire in all season-long formats.
