Franmil Reyes Could Bat Cleanup
6 years agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Franmil Reyes is in pole position as the team’s cleanup hitter come Opening Day. Reyes emerged from relative anonymity to be the Padres best hitter in the second half of 2018, highlighted by 10 homers and a .920 OPS. Despite his early struggles, Reyes adapted, lowering his strikeouts to a respectable 22 percent in the second half. That trend has continued, with Reyes striking out just 18 percent so far this spring en route to an .896 OPS. While he’ll likely split time with outfielders Hunter Renfroe and Franchy Cordero, Reyes should have a favorable slot in a potent offense when he gets the nod. With his immense power profile and newfound plate discipline, Reyes could cruise past 20 long balls in 2019 and makes a compelling case as a DFS or rotational season-long outfield option in fantasy.
