4 years agoDetroit Red Wings center Frans Nielsen was waived on Sunday. The 36-year-old Dane was once among the league's premier two-way players but has fallen way short of the 31.5 million dollar contract he signed with the Wings in 2016. He still has a year left on the deal following this season. Nielsen managed only nine points in 60 outings last season and has three points through 18 games in 2020-21. He's the second high-earning Red Wing to get dropped in a short space of time after defenseman Danny DeKeyser, who was scratched for six games before getting waived last Sunday.
