Gabriel Arias Turning Heads
5 years agoSan Diego Padres shortstop prospect Gabriel Arias has been a standout early in camp. Part of the organization since 2017, the 19-year-old posted an .809 OPS with 17 homers and eight steals in High-A last year across 511 plate appearances. He’s emerged as a top-10 prospect for the Padres. A plus defender gradually tapping into his plate instincts, Arias is 2-for-4 thus far in spring. However, he likely still has a couple years in the minors ahead of him, and shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. will be manning the 6 for the foreseeable future. But if Arias continues his rapid ascent, he’ll be tough for the Padres and dynasty managers to ignore.
