Gardner Minshew II The Favorite To Serve As Backup
3 years agoJacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew II's days as the team's starting quarterback likely ended when Trevor Lawrence was announced as the No. 1 overall pick in April's draft, but the fan-favorite gunslinger has reportedly had a nice offseason. SI's John Shipley noted that, compared to his competition, C.J. Beathard, Minshew "was consistently the better performer on the practice field and right now should be considered the favorite to be Lawrence's backup." Minshew has been up and down in his Jacksonville tenure, but he's shown enough that he should be considered an above-average backup at the NFL level. Minshew is devoid of fantasy appeal in standard leagues, but he should be drafted in superflex/two-QB formats due to the fact that he's a Lawrence injury away from being Jacksonville's starter.
