Gary Sanchez Remains In Season-Long Offensive Malaise
4 years agoNew York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez has not come anywhere near the offensive expectations that were set for him prior to the start of 2020. Following Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Braves, Sanchez is now slashing a paltry .139/.253/.361 through his first 23 games. But with the Yankees having very few alternative options, Sanchez figures to continue seeing ample playing time. For optimistic owners, Sanchez’s 92.1 MPH average exit velocity and 48.6 Hard Hit % are well above average, indicating that better days may be ahead. At the same time, he has delivered a .150 xBA, which ranks among the bottom one percentile of all hitters in the Majors. He will face the Mets over the weekend, likely missing Jacob deGrom, which should bode in his favor.
