Gary Sanchez To Take Batting Practice On Monday
5 years agoNew York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez (back) is on track to take batting practice on Monday. Sanchez felt back soreness last Saturday and had originally been expected to play in games two days later, but was instead held out through last week. The Athletic's Lindsey Adler reported that Sanchez will be held out from games until Friday. The Yankees have maintained that they’re just being cautious with their star catcher, but fantasy owners should keep an eye on how Sanchez feels after his batting practice session. Outfielder Aaron Judge (ribs) was treated similarly with his injury progression before being diagnosed with a stress fracture, so the team’s optimism should be taken with a grain of salt. Sanchez is an elite fantasy catcher when healthy with a career .846 OPS, but he’s never played in more than 125 games in a season. Keep an eye on Sanchez’s health as the season approaches, and it would be prudent to hold off on drafting him until learning how he feels after batting practice.
