7 years agoNew York Mets infielder/prospect Gavin Cecchini was hit in the foot by a pitch on Wednesday while playing for Triple-A Las Vegas; he’s set to get an x-ray on Thursday. Cecchini needed to be helped off the field, not good. The 24-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic 2018 thus far, slashing .294/.342/.468 with two home runs, 11 doubles, and one triple across 30 games. Any missed time would be crushing for him given that he’s finally starting to breakout a bit. The Mets first round pick in 2012, for most of his minor league career Cecchini has been known more for his glove than his bat. However, in recent years his defense has taken a hit seemingly in favor of his production at the plate – he’s not going to top any prospect lists, but he’s hit better than expected at points. He likely isn’t worth much of a hold in any league.--John Smith
