3 years agoColorado Rockies right-hander German Marquez was brilliant on Tuesday night, carrying a no-hit bid into the ninth inning as he allowed just one hit and one walk to go along with five strikeouts over nine innings in an 8-0 win over the Pirates. Marquez was nearly perfect through eight innings on Tuesday, allowing just two base runners total. He hit Jacob Stallings with a pitch in the second inning and walked Phillip Evans in the fifth. The crowd was on their feet as Marquez came out for the ninth inning to try and notch the eighth no-hitter of the MLB season but it wasn't mean to be. Ka'ai Tom led off the inning by roping a single into shallow right field before Michael Perez grounded into a double play and Adam Frazier grounded out to end the contest. It was still a phenomenal effort from the 26-year-old, who lowered his ERA to a solid 3.62 to go along with a 1.19 WHIP, and 94:40 K/BB ratio over 99 1/3 innings (17 starts). He has some streaming appeal this weekend when he faces the Cardinals in his next start.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
