4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole was charged with just his second loss of the season in a rare off night on Monday against the Rangers. Cole pitched five innings, surrendering five runs on seven hits while fanning seven batters with two walks issued. The ace right-hander allowed a leadoff double in the first inning before bearing down and striking out the side, breaking a major-league record for most consecutive strikeouts without a walk in the process. However, the night was a frustrating one overall for Cole, who served up a pair of homers and allowed a 96.5 MPH average exit velocity. There's obviously nothing to worry about with Cole, though he's not immune to these types of outings, given that he ranks in the 25th-percentile in average exit velocity and the 33rd in hard-hit rate. Still, fantasy managers should expect a bounce-back performance in his next matchup on May 22 against the White Sox, despite the tough matchup.--Tim Capurso
