Giants Hope Sterling Shepard Is Back By August
3 years agoThe New York Giants are hoping that both wide receiver Sterling Shepard (Achilles) and linebacker Blake Martinez (knee) will be back by August, according to general manager Joe Schoen. Martinez is slightly ahead of Shepard in his rehab. Shepard tore his Achilles on Dec. 19, and it remains to be seen if he'll be ready for Week 1. The 29-year-old had 36 catches for 366 yards and a touchdown in seven games prior to his injury, and he should be New York's No. 2 receiver behind Kenny Golladay when he returns to full health. Martinez, a top IDP asset when healthy, tore his ACL in Week 3. Before the 2021 season, he had at least 144 combined tackles in four straight seasons (three with the Green Bay Packers).
