Giants Must Decide on Daniel Jones' Fifth-Year Option
3 years agoThe New York Giants are faced with a decision on whether to pick up quarterback Daniel Jones' fifth-year option by next Tuesday. The option would be worth $22.38 million. Jones will enter the season at age 25 and has fallen short of expectations since being taken with the No. 6 overall pick in 2019. With a new head coach in Brian Daboll and picks No. 5 and No. 7 in this year's draft, the team could opt to give Jones one more shot at taking a step forward, but it would come at a hefty cost. With significant draft capital as well as trade rumors swirling around wide receiver Kadarius Toney, it would not be surprising to see the Giants go a different direction at quarterback, particularly as they juggle salary cap issues. Jones has statistically declined each year in the league, finishing 2021 with 2,428 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions with a passer rating of only 84.8 through 11 starts. He also has an astonishing 36 career fumbles in 38 total games.
