Giants Not Picking Up Daniel Jones' Fifth-Year Option
3 years agoAs expected, the New York Giants are not picking up quarterback Daniel Jones' fifth-year option, according to a source with knowledge of the team's plans. However, if Jones plays well in 2022, he'll have a chance to cash in with the franchise tag for the 2023 season. It was considered a reach when the Giants took Jones sixth overall in the 2019 draft out of Duke. He flashed positive signs in his rookie year with 3,027 yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 13 games, but he's had fumbling issues and took a step back in his sophomore season. Jones played in just 11 games due to a neck injury in 2021, but he's done well in his rehab and is expected to be fully ready for the start of the 2022 regular season. The 24-year-old will have to learn a whole new offense and prove to the Giants and fantasy managers that he's a legitimate starter.
