7 years agoWashington Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez rewarded his manager's faith on Sunday, going seven strong innings in his win over Arizona. Gonzalez was vocal about being pulled early in his previous start, so Dave Martinez let him continue in the seventh inning of this one. Until then, Gonzalez had only given up five hits, only one of which was for extra bases (a double by Nick Ahmed). Another single and sacrifice fly put up the only earned runs against him before finishing up the frame. He struck out eight and walked two on the day. In 2018, Gonzalez has yet to give up more than three earned runs in any outing. He's been quietly solid so far after a tremendous 2017 campaign. And while the Nationals lineup has struggled, they'll wake up eventually and give Gonzalez the run support he deserves. At 32, Gonzalez may be peaking. But so long as he remains durable, fantasy owners should ride the peak. A few more starts like this, however, and it'll be high time to cash out.--Mario Hernandez - RotoBaller
