GM Rick Spielman Praises Kellen Mond
3 years agoMinnesota Vikings rookie quarterback Kellen Mond has endured a roller coaster training camp, from starting it on the COVID list to playing well in the final preseason game against the Chiefs. Mond completed 16-of-23 passes for 196 yards, one interception, one lost fumble and 40 rushing yards over the weekend, mixing some good with plenty of bad. The rookie led the Vikings on their only two touchdown drives of the entire preseason and General Manager Rick Spielman praised the young signal caller for working through the growing pains. "You can get the practices and get the reads, but when you get in games like this, especially for young quarterbacks in the preseason, you're going to get hit. So they have to get through their progressions quicker." Mond has outplayed quarterback Jake Browning during the preseason and should serve as the backup for Week 1.
