Gregory Polanco Batting Third in Pirates Opener
7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates right fielder Gregory Polanco will bat third on Opening Day against the Detroit Tigers. Whether he sticks in that spot moving forward is unknown, as Starling Marte doesn't figure to hit sixth all season and some shuffling will occur once the team gets out of interleague play after this weekend. Regardless, Polanco should continue to bat high in the lineup, giving him plenty of run-producing and base-stealing opportunities. He's coming off a promising spring in which he hit .327/.365/.612 with five doubles, four home runs, and seven RBI. More importantly, he stayed healthy. The promising young outfielder missed 54 games with various injuries in 2017 and had the worst season of his career (81 wRC+) when he was on the field. He's a post-hype breakout candidate in 2018.
