3 years agoThe Cleveland Guardians signed outfielder Anthony Alford to a minor league deal on Tuesday and assigned him to Triple-A Columbus. The third-round pick out of Ole Miss in 2012 has split his major league career between the Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates. The 27-year-old rejected an outright assignment by the Pirates and became a free agent on April 24, and now he'll become organizational depth for the Guardians. Alford had one hit in four at-bats over two games for the Bucs this year, and he slashed .233/.311/.406 with five home runs, 11 RBI and five stolen bases in 49 games for Pittsburgh in 2021. He has only eight home runs and a .209 career average in six major league seasons.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
