7 years agoGreen Bay Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix explained his absence from organized team activities on Tuesday by explaining that he was dealing with the death of his grandmother. However, there had been rumors that he has been angling for a new contract. When asked if the death of his grandmother was the only reason he missed OTAs, he responded with a wink, seemingly validating the rumors. Green Bay is shallow at the safety position and Clinton-Dix will be an important part of the defense going into next year. He is in the final year of his contract. He unequivocally denied that he has any intention of holding out. Still, his desire for a new contract at this moment is a little confusing. After an overrated performance in 2016, Clinton-Dix was largely disappointing in 2017, punctuated by an embarrassing Week 17 performance where he seemingly gave almost no effort. All of this is coming at a time when the market for the safety position has tanked. A new contract seems unlikely and it does not appear that any of this drama will have much, if any, effect on Clinton-Dix’s or the defense’s performance in 2018.--Tyger McGuiggan
