Hanley Ramirez Reportedly Part of Federal Drug Investigation
6 years agoThis certainly won't help free-agent first baseman Hanley Ramirez convince suitors to give him a contract. The former Boston Red Sox infielder is reportedly being looked at in connection to an ongoing federal investigation related to a drug ring. The police stopped a car in Massachusetts on Friday morning and found a significant amount of drugs inside. The suspect then said one of the items in the vehicle belonged to Ramirez. The Red Sox claim that they had no idea about this situation, and the decision to release Ramirez was purely a baseball move. Likewise, Ramirez's agent stated that his client had no idea about the investigation and had no knowledge of the allegations. This is a strange situation and definitely hurts the chances of a Ramirez comeback this season. Surely more information will come out over the next few days. The 34-year-old had a .254 average with six home runs and 29 RBI through 44 games before the Red Sox cut him loose.
