Hector Neris Nails Down Ninth Save On Thursday
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Hector Neris needed only 10 pitches to retire the side and pick up the save Thursday in a win over the Marlins. Neris picked up a strikeout and also walked a batter, but was able to get Jon Berti to bang into a 5-4-3 double play to end the game. In a season where the Phillies bullpen has been bad as a whole, Neris has been the one reliever to rise above the madness and lock himself into the closer's role. In addition to his nine saves, Neris has 27 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings with a cool 1.99 ERA. He's a must-roster reliever in any league that rewards saves.
