Hector Neris Whiffs Two In Clean Eighth Inning
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Hector Neris pitched a scoreless eighth innings with two strikeouts to help beat the Cubs on Thursday. Neris was called on in an 8-0 game as he's struggled lately, but the Phillies will need him to turn it around if they want to make a run in the second half. Neris had a brutal June as he allowed 10 runs in 7 2/3 innings and blew five saves to be removed from the closer role. This outing was a step in the right direction, but he's still got work to do if he wants to work his way back into consideration for saves. Neris is best left on waivers for now, but he can be a saves candidate down the line if he builds off this effort.
