Starling Marte Has Been Red-Hot
7 years agoLast season was a disappointing one for Starling Marte and his fantasy owners. The Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder was hit with an 80-game performance-enhancing drug suspension in April and although he contributed in batting average (.275) and steals (21) in his 77 games, his overall production dipped (91 wRC+ vs. 119 in 2016). Based on his spring performance, Marte seems ready to shake off last season and return to being a top-15 fantasy outfielder. He went 2-for-3 with a home run on Sunday, raising his slash line to .424/.441/.818 in 34 plate appearances. Most importantly, he is showing power that was largely absent the last two seasons when he combined for only 16 home runs after slugging 19 in 2015 alone. He is a solid bet to provide 30-plus steals and hit around .285, but adding some pop to that profile would make him a nice value pick at his current ADP of 50.
