Houston Inks Jake Odorizzi To Two-Year Deal
4 years agoRight-handed starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi and the Houston Astros have reportedly agreed to a two-year contract that also includes a player option for 2023. Odorizzi was the top arm still available on the free-agent market, with Houston incentivized to act quickly after potentially losing promising starter Framber Valdez (finger) for the remainder of the year. Odorizzi was an All-Star in 2019, amassing a career-best 129 ERA+ and 10.1 K/9. Injuries limited him to just four starts in the truncated 2020 campaign, but he threw between 143-188 innings in each season from '14-19. His move to Houston is rather neutral for his season-long outlook, while the team's rotation is set to boast at least five impressive arms to kick-off the season.
