Ian Happ Slowly Progressing
4 years agoChicago Cubs manager David Ross said on Tuesday that things are going "a little slower than anticipated" for outfielder Ian Happ (ribs). Happ collided with teammate Nico Hoerner on May 4 and exited the ballgame. He has not seen action since and was shortly placed on the 10-day injured list following the collision. Ross did say that Happ is showing improvement, but didn't offer a timetable of when he could return. With Happ sidelined and outfielder Jake Marisnick (hamstring) placed on the 10-day injured Tuesday, look for the Cubs to use a combination of infielders Matt Duffy, Eric Sogard and Ildemaro Vargas to pick up at-bats in his absence. Duffy is the most intriguing of those options with a .288 batting average to go along with seven RBI and three stolen bases. Happ had his best game of the season with three hits in his last game, but has had a rough season overall with a dismal .167 batting average to go along with two home runs, four RBI and one stolen base.
