Ian Kennedy Picks Up Save For D'backs

2 years agoArizona Diamondbacks reliever Ian Kennedy picked up the save on Saturday to close out his team's 2-0 win over the Cardinals. The veteran right-hander issued a leadoff walk to begin the ninth frame, but was able to generate outs against the next three hitters to seal the game for his first save of 2022. Since Mark Melancon was placed on the COVID-19 IL on Friday, it was Kennedy who received the call from the pen since he's the most experienced of the bunch with 56 career saves, including picking up 26 a year ago. Melancon will return to the closer's role once he's back to full health, but managers in deeper leagues should keep an eye on Kennedy in case Melancon were ever to miss significant time this season.--Riley Mrack - RotoBaller
