Ivan Nova Looks Sharp, Fans Nine in Win
7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates pitcher Ivan Nova struck out nine Miami Marlins batters on Sunday en route to his second win of 2018. The right-hander allowed three runs and six hits in his 6 2/3 innings of work while walking no one. After giving up a first-inning run, Nova cruised along until the seventh inning, when he gave up a two-out, two-run homer to Justin Bour. Although it was against an inferior opponent, Nova looked impressive for a second straight outing following a pair of shaky starts to begin the year. The 31-year-old is worth a look in most fantasy leagues right now, as he's allowed six runs on 13 hits in his last 13 2/3 innings, striking out 15 and walking zero. The Ks may not last given his career strikeout rate of 17.3 percent, but the control is very real and he certainly won't hurt you in the WHIP category. Nova will get the Phillies in his next start as he tries to keep the good times rolling.
