7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Ivan Nova was tagged for eight runs (five earned) in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. The night started with a leadoff home run by Bryce Harper and didn't get any better for Nova. He allowed a round-tripper to Matt Adams two batters later and surrendered runs in three of the next four innings as well. Nova allowed 11 hits in total while striking out five and walking two. The right-hander had been on a tear over his previous four starts, posting a 2.28 ERA and 23:0 strikeout-to-walk ratio. When he issued a free pass to start the fifth inning, it also ended a streak of 130 straight batters without a walk allowed. Nova will look to get back on track against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.--Matt Wilkes
