J.A. Happ Has Uneven Performance On Thursday
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher J.A. Happ allowed four runs over five innings against the Mets on Thursday, allowing eight hard-hit balls and generating only seven whiffs (7.5% swinging-strike rate). Happ cruised through three innings of one-run ball before the wheels fell off in the bottom of the fourth when Happ allowed three runs on five hits. Happ had been trending in the right direction with one run allowed over his last two starts (13 innings) coming into Thursday’s performance, but he left Thursday’s start with a 4.68 ERA thanks to a slow start to the season. Still, Happ’s .305 xwOBAcon and 10% swinging-strike rate suggest he should post an ERA slightly above 4.00 over the rest of the season, making him worth rostering in many leagues.
