J.A. Happ Hit Hard On Thursday
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher J.A. Happ struggled on Thursday, allowing four runs over four innings against the Orioles. Happ allowed a whopping nine hard-hit balls to a Baltimore lineup that ranked last in hard-hit rate last season, and his 7% swinging-strike rate was poor as well. Happ’s fastball velocity on Thursday was also down about one mph on average from last season, and that’s something to keep an eye on over the rest of the season. Even so, there weren’t any huge red-flags that suggest a sustained slump for Happ, and he’ll likely bounce back towards an ERA around 4.20 over his next few starts.
