3 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher J.A. Happ recorded a quality start along with his fifth victory of the season in Thursday's defeat of the Detroit Tigers. Happ spun seven innings of three-run ball, surrendering eight hits and one walk. He fired 71 of 102 pitches for strikes, fanning eight batters while generating 16 whiffs. Happ's fastball has been a good offering for him this year- a trend that continued Thursday- though it was his changeup that really played well off of the heater, as Tigers' hitters swung and missed at the pitch six times and mustered just a 72.6 MPH average exit velocity against it. Happ has been about as inconsistent as they come in fantasy this season, posting two quality starts in his last three outings, with the other performance a clunker against the Kansas City Royals. With a 5.90 ERA and some alarming Statcast metrics, Happ can be left to the waiver wire in fantasy circles.--Tim Capurso
