4 years agoNew York Mets third baseman/outfielder J.D. Davis belted his first home run of the season in the Mets' 3-1 loss to the Cubs on Tuesday. His homer, a solo shot, accounted for the Mets' only run of the game. Davis went 2-for-3 with the homer and a walk, raising his slash line to .385/.500/.615 on the season over just 16 plate appearances. Davis, who recently came off the injured list, missed time to begin the season after getting hit in the hand with a pitch in a game against the Phillies during the first week of the season. The performance on Tuesday is a good sign that Davis is healthy and ready to produce for a lineup that has largely underachieved in the early part of 2021. Notably, though, Davis committed two errors playing third base on Tuesday. Continued defensive issues could limit his playing time, notwithstanding his productivity at the plate. Assuming Davis does not lose playing time to Jonathan Villar or Luis Guillorme for defensive reasons, managers can reasonably expect 20-plus HR and 60-plus RBI production from Davis as the Mets' regular third baseman.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
