7 years agoAfter suffering a hand injury prior to the season, Houston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel is set to be activated off the disabled list, making his debut on Friday. With his arrival, former top prospect J.D. Davis is being optioned to Triple-A. Davis had found his stride recently, hitting .385 with three walks over his past three games. While Davis will likely get another shot in the future, it's hard to see him being a big contributor with Gurriel healthy. As for Gurriel himself, the 33-year-old is coming off of a season in which he hit .299 with 18 home runs and 75 RBI. He adds another potent bat to the middle of an already dangerous Astros lineup. He'll begin his 2018 campaign facing Cole Hamels, a pitcher he has gone 0-for-5 with one strikeout against in his career.--Dan Fappiano
