J.J. Nelson Stepping Up In Antonio Brown’s Absence
5 years agoOakland Raiders wide receiver J.J. Nelson is taking advantage of playing on the team’s first-string offense with Antonio Brown sidelined with a foot injury. Head coach Jon Gruden stated that “Nelson is making big plays deep and Derek likes him, and I think that’s something we’re going to continue to probe.” The fact that the 27-year-old is drawing praise is certainly a bonus, but he likely won’t carry much fantasy appeal this season unless Brown were to miss significant time. With Tyrell Williams locking down the other starting receiver role, and rookie Hunter Renfrow lining up in the slot, Nelson is the fourth mouth to feed of the receiving corps. His tremendous speed and ability to make the big play may give him some DFS appeal, but he can be left off the season-long radar.
