Jacob deGrom Dealing With Sprained UCL
3 years agoNew York Mets president Sandy Alderson reported on Tuesday that Jacob deGrom (elbow) is dealing with a sprain/partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow. Alderson went on to emphasize that deGrom is fine now and that the ligament injury has "resolved itself." Clearly, Alderson was downplaying the severity of the issue if the ligament is, in fact, partially torn. At this point, it remains unclear whether deGrom will return this season. Alderson's comments on Tuesday only served to create more questions about deGrom's situation in terms of whether the elbow injury is a sprain that can resolve itself or a tear that cannot. deGrom is 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA, 0.55 WHIP, 146 strikeouts and just 11 walks in 92 innings over 15 starts in 2021. Managers in redraft formats may wish to hold onto deGrom with the slim hope that he could get in a start or two before the end of the season. That said, the clock is ticking and it is looking less likely deGrom will pitch again in 2021.
